Successful Mucocele Surgery!
My mucocele formed on my bottom lip in May. I had it for the entire summer, it was so annoying. It would get so big then small. It once got so huge it exploded and formed a crater, which later filled in again. I tried rinsing with warm salt water and it did not help.
I had a week left until I would leave for college and it bothered me so much, so I finally told my mom, and she took me to an oral surgeon. I got it removed right then! The most pain was the anesthesia injection, but right after that I felt nothing. My lip was HUGE. I had four stitches.
My lips were numb for a few days, I did not get the full feeling back until a week after my surgery. They perscribed me antibiotics and ibuprofen for the pain. I could eat mostly normal except for having to stretch my lips horizontally because the stitches were tight and had to drink from a straw.
The doctor told me the stitches would dissolve, and the stitches that were sticking out would fall out. The stitches that were sticking out bothered me, but they eventually fell out about 2 weeks after my surgery.
I remember coming onto this site reading EVERYTHING and being so scared. But it's been almost 3 weeks since I had my surgery and everything is completely fine! The surgery was worth it.
