There's nothing you can do to get rid of it yourself. Sometimes they go on their own otherwise if you want rid of it you'll have to have the surgery. The surgery is not so bad. Good luck.

That sounds scary. I'd be sure to get it checked out well if I were you. I've never heard of anyone here having one in their throat before. Good luck.

I would think that playing the trumpet would burst it anyway. And if he played every day then it wouldn't have time to grow back. He doesn't have to pussy foot around it, treat it roughly and it will be fine.

I'd say that if it's going to go away it does so in the first few weeks. If you've still got it after a couple of months then it isn't going anywhere. As long as you've had it diagnosed properly and it is a mucocele then it's your choice whether to get it removed or just leave it be.

It is quite common for another to appear. I had one removed and now have another but it's much smaller so I have just left it. If I were you I'd burst the mucocele and put of having it removoed till after the holiday. I certainly wouldn't want to go away just a few days after surgery.

Looks like a mucocele to me.

I'm sorry nobody replied to your email. I guess by now you're over it as it's been ten days since your surgery. How you doing?

There aren't any tests your doctor can do to identify it unless they remove it and send it to the path lab. It just needs someone who knows what they're doing to look at it and say what it is. If it's a mucocele you can then get it removed or leave it alone just as you like.

Shame. Getting it cut out isn't too big a deal. Good luck.

ouch!

I should get a diagnosis first before just leaving it. It could be something different.

You don't need to get it removed if you don't want to but it's a good idea to get it properly diagnosed first just in case.

Great. It's good to hear what happens to people. Many don't come back.

Before my mucocele appeared I'd had surgery on the inside of my lower lip whereby tissue was taken to use a graft elsewhere. So it was long, wide and deep. There was a numb patch there for a very long time, years, but it has eventually gone. I would expect a mucocele op to recover much more quickly.

It could just be a sore. I had something like that caused by a rough tooth. They say with lumps and bumps, that if the hang around for 2 weeks you should get it checked out.

That's not right. The stitches should not fall out until the wound is healed enough to cope on its own. After such a short time the would will still be open. I'd call and get it checked out.

Anything is possible but for me it hasn't gone away. My mucocele arose because I had tissue taken from inside my lower lip to use as a graft elsewhere. A while later the scar healed and a mucocele formed. I had it removed 2 and a half years ago only for another smaller one to appear. This one is high up and visible and I was to have it removed when other events overtook it and I had to postpone it. So I'm still living with it and it's got no better in all that time.

I can't think that Listerine would work. A mucocele forms when the small salivary duct is damaged and allows the saliva to pool making a little balloon. Why should listerine or any other mouthwash make it go away? Let us know what happens.

I think that if the mucocele goes when using one of those odd treatments that it's just coincidence and it was going to go away anyway. So really if it's bothering you, the only thing to do is to have it removed. Otherwise just leave it alone and it may go away.

I'd go to the dentist. It may be an infection.

If you keep on popping it you risk infection and scar tissue. Get it removed once and for all.

Draining is good but it generally comes back. The oil is actually saliva as it's a salivary gland that's got blocked. Good luck, hope it doesn't come back too soon.

If you simply cut it off, it will heal up and you'll be back where you started. It's also a good way of getting it infected. I'd rather leave it be than mess around with it.

Cyst is the proper term for the mucocele so your doctor is right. There are two sorts of mucocle outlined here
http://www.emedicine.com/derm/topic274.htm .
Hope yours goes away on its own.

It has probably changed character due to the repeated prodding of it which is why it now feels different. If you can't live with it, then you'll need to get it removed. Don't worry, the hole left will quickly be filled in by new tissue. It's not a problem.

Here's a theory about the steroid cream. Steroids are good for inflammation. So any extra swelling will go while the mucocele itself will remain. A mucocele is a physical damage to the duct so cream is not really going to have any good effect.
