White bump inside mouth (pic included), by mouthfromthesouth

It's just behind second molar, right side of roof of mouth, almost where the top meets the bottom of the mouth.  Painless, felt a little saltiness for a minute as if it was leaking blood or pus.  Just noticed it tonight after eating dinner.  It felt big with my tongue, but the pic shows it as no more than a couple of millimeters in diameter.  Any clue?  Thanks!

Re: Home treatment for mucoceles that works every time, by guest

I know everyone's mucoceles can be a bit different. Are you able to pop your mucocele at all? When I applied the alum, it definitely burned at first (say first few days), then I either got used to it or it stopped burned. I say pop it if you can (with you fingers not puncturing your mouth with any object), and continue to apply the alum. For me burning (on both of my mucoceles) was the norm.

okay i used the alum 3 weeks ago nothing happened other than the mococele increasing in size, and a tiny white patch formed size of a pencil tip. 3 weeks later it has not disappeared i just started to re apply the alum twice a day, now the mucocele is starting to burn any one knows what to do, should i keep applying this alum or stop. -Nathan

Re: Home treatment for mucoceles that works every time, by guest

I figured I'd come back to let this board know how my alum treatment went. Around the first of February I posted on here about a mucocele I had (that just wouldn't go away/I've had them before and they would clear up in a few days on their own) that I treated with alum, only to have another mucocele appear next to it. Well, I simply treated them (initially popped them) with alum over the course of 10 days, initially 3-4x's a day-about 10 minutes a session (rinsing with Listerine after I was done), decreasing to 2-3x's by day 10. For me, they formed a crater-like area which healed over as it was treated. Well, I didn't want to count my chickens before they were hatched, but it's been a good 3 weeks I want to say and NO MORE MUCOCELES!!!! My lip is back to normal. I found my mucoceles dramatically started to heal after I wouldn't touch them with my tongue. I think initially I would touch them out of habit which was probably irritating them. So, if you're treating mucoceles try not to avoid contact with them if possible, from my experience. But in short, ALUM WORKED FOR ME! Definitely worth giving a shot!

Just to add apart from the original area another 2 areas of dead skin came up - they healed up fine.

Re: Home treatment for mucoceles that works every time, by guest

Had doubts about this treatment but thought I'd give it a go. Had one on my lip (from bitting). Am based in Australia, can't get allum from supermarket as a spice - had to get it from a pharmacy (manufacturer is David Craig Biotech). Cost $15 for 100 grams - not sure if the pharmacy product is more concentrated than the supermarket spice. Had to be ordered in, not all pharmacies had it. Found more effective when the cystals were ground to a really fine powder (used a mortar and pestle). Folded a square of tissue dampened and dipped one side in the powder - placed against mucocele for 10 mins 3-4 times a day for 5 days followed by 5 mins of listerine. Note powder attracts water so keep air tight and only prepare how muuch you need for 3 days. Occasionally scrapped off dead skin with a sterile needle (heated over gas flame). Couldn't beleive it, it worked for me! Thanks Bigfoot!!!!!!

Re: Should I get surgery in a week? , by rgl

Hi Karajan,

I know it seems crappy, but hang in there!  The oral surgeon doesn't have anymore suggestions?  It seems as if you've been through a lot with getting it removed.  I don't know if any of the home remedies will work for you but at least it will be worth a try.  A lot of people in this forum try the evening primrose oil.  Rub some on your mucocele every night before you go to bed.  Soak a little piece of TP or get a gauze and soak it with the EPO and put it on your mucocele like a little compress.  I know it might not seem like a good way to get rid of it despite you going through surgery, but at least its worth a try.  Good luck and let us know what happens!

Re: Stressed out by your mucocele??, by rgl

Hi,

I totally agree that worrying about your mucocele will only drive you insane.  And others really don't understand unless they have been through it themselves.  My husband and sister thought I was crazy because I started freaking out about it.  When I found this forum, it was kinda calming because I found others who felt the same way as I did about some bump in my mouth.  Knowing that others experienced what I did was comforting and relaxing.  I also learned a lot from this forum.  So whatever I learn new about mucoceles, or if I can ease someones mental state a little bit, I will help!

Hi Big Johnny,

I totally forgot about rannula.  I was so used to them being on the bottom lip or roof of the mouth.

Re: Should I get surgery in a week? , by karajan

Hi
ive gotten mine removed twice in the same spot and once in another spot on my lower lip. im 15 now and it is annoying to have there. i feel like everyone looks at that when im talking or smiling. ive had the same two in my bottom lip for over a year and they stay the same size. one is pretty big i think. but last time i had them removed the doctor took out a ball that was in the bump. so cutting it and draining wont do much becuase the little stupid ball of whatever will be there untill u take it out. a few months ago i went to a different doctor and he said to leave it alone. he said since i already had it removed twice it will most likely come back and theres a good chance of new ones forming around it during the surgery. this was terrible news to me because im so self conscious of them. i wish there was something that would get rid of em permanently but i dont think there is especially if they've came back after you go
t em removed once. but i suggest not to cut them ne more because it may make them smaller for a day or so but it doesnt get rid of the ball in side of the lump.   sad

Surgery tomorrow, by lphanger

I've had a rather large mucocele for over a month. When I first got it, I drained it and it came back a few days later. I scheduled an appt. with a doctor and scheduled a surgery for tomorrow. At the time it was 1cm. Well, in the next few days it grew even more. Well, as I ate dinner, I accidentally bit it. It drained and bled, but has not formed a new lump. (It's been two days since that happened) Well, though there's no large lump, I can see that one is forming. There is also a small white bump. I can see that my saliva is still draining (very slowly from the front of my lip), which is why I suspect a large lump hasn't formed yet. My big question though is will the Dr still be able to remove the damaged gland, etc. even though I no longer have a large lump? I know it's only a matter of time for it to come back, and I'd rather do it tomorrow since it's scheduled and all.

Thanks for any input!

Re: Evening Primrose Oil works!!, by aquamarinehg2085

hey everyone :D

i'm the original poster of this forum...i'm glad to see it has helped so many people!  Be patient with the treatment, it can take a week or so for the EPO to do its thing.  I noticed a change in texture first, it got soft and pliable, and then it wasn't for a week or so that i noticed a change in size.  It then was a small raised dot for awhile where the duct was healing...and eventually it dissapeared!

It has been just over a year since i had the mucocele and it has not returned.  I couldn't even tell you where it used to be...!

Anyway, keep up the good work, and spread the word about this non-invasive treatment!

Re: Stressed out by your mucocele??, by guest

I've had several mucoceles and I know just how stressful they can be. I always wanted to punch the doc when he said, don't worry about it! ...like it was not a big deal. In a way I know there are far worse things a human can be put through but when you have an open sore that drips gooey fluid on your bottom lip 24/7 it really does play on you quite a bit, as well as the social aspect of people not understanding what you have and looking at you all weird as if you've got the plague! I do however tend to agree that not thinking about it can help to a degree, such as the remembered wellness techniques used or positive thinking. I kinda sit on the fence when it comes to stuff like that, but it cant hurt, anymore than it does already, to try to stop thinking about your mucocele and keep telling yourself that you will get better.

It looks like one.  On the floor of the mouth, they're known as rannula.  Agree you ought to get it looked at though to be sure.

Chuppa:

It could be a mucocele because they can appear under the tounge.  You probably should go to a dentist to get it confirmed though.  Do you remember eating something that might have punchered you under your tounge?  Have you tried any home treatments??  Give some a try and let us know what happens.

Re: Home treatment for mucoceles that works every time, by guest

The alum appears to be working very well -- hooray! I fooled around with a sterilized needle at first, but for me, it was best going with just the alum / Listerine -- and a little rubbing alcohol. One tip that I don't think I've seen -- be careful to only apply a little bit of alum directly over the mucocele, or you may get what looks like another one. Seems to go away, but it's best to keep the alum to the affected area only.

Re: Home treatment for mucoceles that works every time, by guest

Hey guys, I posted a while back. I tried the alum treatment and the mucocole got smaller but would alway come back. It was driving me nuts so I had it removed on Friday. It wasnt a big deal at all. I got a shot in my lip, which didnt hurt at all, and that all that I felt. About 10-15 minutes I was all done and on the way home. Yes it was pretty swollen for a few hours and my lip a little discolored, but the swelling went down and the color came back fast (within a couple hrs). Also it didnt stay numb for more than a few hours. It is now the third day since my surgery, the swelling is almost gone. I have 3 stitches, but you can hardly see them. Lets just hope it doesnt come back! If you live in Dallas, the doctor I used was great.

is this a mucocele?, by myerserie

Not sure when I first noticed it. Painless and moves around. Not sensative to cold or heat, nothing has come out of it yet.  I dont think it has gotten any bigger or smaller has stayed pretty consistant. Can't recall biting my lip.  Wondering if this is a Mucocele?

Hi Chuppa:

It's kinda hard to tell from your pics.  Mucoceles usually look kinda bluish or transparent looking in color.  Is is soft or hard?  Has it ever bursted?  Is it sore??

Should say I "made applications of alum with a cotton ball".

Re: Home treatment for mucoceles that works every time, by guest

Tried this treatment after suffering for three months. (The mucocele would burst and regrow.) I made applications using a cotton ball for fifteen minutes every couple of hours and followed with a Listerine rinse. It took about four days to heal.

Re: Evening Primrose Oil works!!, by guest

-e- Day two: with primrose/biotene toothpaste. I don't notice a difference in the size of the mucocele but it's softer and slightly less intrusive. Sorry to hear yours is coming back, i can imagine that being disappointing. Honestly i would due the eop every night if it meant i didn't have this thing.

Re: Evening Primrose Oil works!!, by guest

Hi everybody, I hate to be back with bad news, I used de EPO, and worked wonders like i said in my first posting, but now after about 10 days, i still have a little bump, with a white dot and it seems like it wants to come back, i dont know what i did wrong, ive notice my front teeth kind of rub the mucocele in the gap thas in between them, and that might be why it wont heal completely, Im still using the EPO i guess it only controls the problem but now im starting to panic, i don't want to deal with this forever, i hope somebody could help us with some more tips. thank you! Hi, I just wanted to tell everybody thats dealing with a mucocele problem, that Evening Primrose Oil does work!!! I was so stressed out by my mucocele, i was in such a bad mood, almost depressed. i've had mine since november 2009, and its been coming and going until about 2 weeks ago that it became really bothersome! big and swollen i couldnt talk or eat comfortably, thanks GOd i found this forum and I tried the alum with listerine but, it made it worse, maybe i was too rough with the indications, but then after that i tried the EPO last night i rubbed the oil gently on my inside lip(where mucocele is located) and this morning it has swolled down noticeable!!! its like a miracle, i've doing it a few times during the day and i'll keep doing it until is completly gone, really im just want to make sure it doesn't come back but its already technically GONE!! everybody should give it a try you wont regret it and you will save headaches and money, thanks to all the people that recommended it. Good Luck to all of you!! replyquote19 February 2010 02:11 AM
